More and more people seem to be finding the concept of using personal trainers and gym memberships as preventative medicine. This is because, as people use the gym, get fit and stay healthy, their health care costs are lower, which means lower costs for employers offering health insurance to their employees. In an article in the Los Angeles Times entitled, "Health reform: Fitness, personal training coverage more common", they discuss how more and more employers are opting for personal trainers and gym coverage to be part of their health insurance coverage policies.
While this kind of coverage isn't part of the recently signed Affordable Care Act, by allowing health insurance to be more accessible, it's thought that, if this trend continues, more and more employers will offer coverage for personal trainers and fitness facilities under their policies. If so, this could mean more business for gyms, and more people getting fit and healthy as a result. If that is the case, this could be a win-win if it comes to pass, which I hope it does.
