Body weight exercises are strength-training exercises that use only your body weight. They are not as effective as other forms of strength training. However, if it is your only means, they can be beneficial. Some of the most common body weight strength training exercises include squats, lunges, push-ups, sit-ups, pull-ups, and calf raises.
As you may notice, I didn't include pictures demonstrating the strength training exercises in this book. I feel that, although pictures may be helpful, they don't effectively teach you the proper mechanics of the exercise. I highly recommend you hire a personal trainer or visit your local health club and seek professional instruction for any strength training exercises you begin.
Although body weight exercises are a simple way to get started, because you don't need equipment, the limited number of exercises result in boredom and reaching a plateau rather quickly.
