In the previous chapter we discussed your options regarding where to exercise. Your decision whether you chose to exercise at home or at a health club will determine which of the following exercises are best for you.
Outdoor cardiovascular exercise
If you prefer to exercise on your own and would like to spend time outside, there are many activities to choose from. You can enjoy exercises such as biking, walking, jogging, running, swimming, canoeing, kayaking, rowing a boat, hiking, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and ice skating. Weather permitting these are all great choices. I'll bet you can think of others.
Indoor cardiovascular exercises
If you choose to exercise indoors and have your own equipment or belong to a health club, you can use a treadmill, bike, rower, stairstepper, elliptical trainer, air-dyne or one of the many other types of indoor equipment available today. If you don't have access to equipment or need to be inside, try jumping rope, jogging or marching in place, performing jumping jacks or working out to aerobic tapes. It is important that you select a type of exercise you find enjoyable. Finding something you enjoy will establish a lasting habit. When you find something enjoyable, don't let this be your one and only source of cardiovascular exercise...mix it up!! You don't want it to get boring and monotonous.
